Permafrost at Hoher Sonnblick 3100m

A few weeks ago we went to the Hohen Sonnblick to install a node with sensors from us and also to inspect the rock face in preparation for further measurements. The video was taken from one of the observatory’s measurement terraces and shows the almost vertical rock faces on which the observatory stands. This is permafrost, the temperature of which has been increasing for some time, or rather the zero-degree limit of which is moving deeper and deeper into the mountain.

Watch the video for the many loose rocks in the rock face, the many rock anchors (which hold the rocky foundation of the observatory together), the magnificent view of the surrounding mountains/glaciers on this day, and the skillful flying artists circling below in the rock face. The day ended with an excellent trout from the glacier lake 🐟 cooked by the chef of the Naturfreundehaus Kolm Saigurn. 😊
