Monitoring for maximum safety on the Lueg Bridge

At 1.8 kilometers long, the Lueg Bridge on the A13 Brenner freeway is the longest bridge in Austria – and a central element of European north-south traffic. Over 14 million vehicles per year (2024), including a high proportion of heavy goods vehicles, underline the strategic importance of this link between Germany and Italy.

As the bridge, which is over 55 years old, is showing signs of fatigue, a comprehensive safety net was installed – consisting of four massive steel trusses underneath critical points.

Rocket NG supports this safety net with a modern IoT monitoring system. It works completely networked, autonomously and around the clock (24/7). Integrated sensors are used to:

  • Displacements at critical points (installation Dec 2024)
  • Forces on the safety net (installations Dec 2024, May 2025)

Recorded in real time and transmitted wirelessly to a central dashboard, this allows the load-bearing structure to be continuously monitored and immediate action taken if necessary—an important contribution to safety during the service life until the planned new build (2025-2030).
